Gaudet Family update – Critical Time for Bangkok/Flooding

October 18 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:
Brethren,

The floods in Thailand are the thing on almost everyone’s mind here. Nearly 300 have lost their lives since the rains started, and millions are affected. In 10 of the 26 provinces still affected the situation is “Critical.” Well more than 900 factories have been flooded putting tens of thousands of people out of work until back on line. It may take months once the flood waters recede.

The greatest challenge now for the government is to keep Bangkok from being inundated. They are opening locks and building barriers to move the water around the capitol. In the process, many outlying provinces have been flooded. To the north of the city 45 miles lies Ayutthaya. The city is uninhabitable and much of the province is also underwater. Many animals also died in the floods. Millions of chickens drowned and their carcasses are floating in the water near the farms where they were raised. Of course now disease is feared. In the aftermath, Dengue fever and other mosquito-borne diseases will be a factor.

Some of the Thai people have lived with flooding for almost three months already. This years flood has been rated as the worst in terms of cost and severity. It will take the country and the families a long time to recover once it is over.

Across the country, several churches have been flooded, but more than that, their people have suffered along with their neighbors. Pray for them and for the churches and ministries in the path of the flood now. Pray that the Love of Christ will be reflected in them and their neighbors will see God at work in their lives. Even now pray that many of the lost will turn to Christ during these days.

For Souls Still Waiting,
Tom and Krinny Gaudet
