Gaudet Family Update – October 2, 2010

October 2 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:

Greetings Brethren,

Several of our co-workers are fighting sickness. A Dr. told one of them that he is seeing many cases influenza, including Swine flu. Please pray for them.

On the days everyone is here, we now have 11 people in the office! With all the languages spoken by our co-workers as well as the many languages dealt with on a daily basis on the computers it is a real tower of Babel experience!

Many projects are being worked on simultaneously, interacting with translators via phone, personal visits, and e-mail. Several projects are at press now in the USA as well as in Burma, Thailand, India, and Vietnam. We are also dealing with printers in several other countries at the same time.

On this open communication we are not able to tell you everything that we would like concerning specific languages and strategic placement of materials. Just know this, we are dependent upon your intercession!
I am scheduled to be in the USA from 16Oct-16Nov. That means I have just two weeks. Much needs to be done before then including finishing a video update concerning the work here. More strategic shipping of literature needs to take place in these next few weeks. Please pray for these preparations.

The longer we are involved in this work, the more convinced we are of the need. This past week, we sent files for Bible Studies in the Karen language to brethren in the USA who are directly working with Karen refugees who are in their cities. We also sent completed files of doctrinal studies in Burmese to be used in training preachers. We printed copies of a doctrinal book published here in the Kachin language for leaders from Burma who are in the city now. They will be able to take these copies back to Burma with them.

On a daily basis I meet with men in the mornings for study and prayer. It is a blessing to use the same doctrinally-sound materials in three languages with the men who are studying. So much more needs to be done to get sound literature and Scripture to many peoples in the region. The needs are great. Please pray.

Gaudet Family Update – Latest container arrival!

September 11 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:

Brethren,

The container of literature arrived safely and is unloaded at our facility. We drove for 9+ hours round trip to the place where the container was unloaded. We do not have the final bill yet, but our customs broker normally alerts us if there is extra cost of clearance. PTL! Thank you for praying.

It was necessary to rent another vacant building next to ours to temporarily store some of the materials. There is a situation in the city where the literature is stored which hindered making the most important part of the ongoing shipments needed. In addition, we are not exactly certain where we are with shipping funds and amazingly, our ATM cards are all locked up right now. Occasionally our bank in the USA decides that when we use the card it is “suspicious activity” and it has to be sorted out with the bank before it will work again. Please pray that these matters can be sorted out so we can trans-ship the materials into strategic locations for distribution.

We hand delivered some 500 whole Bibles, 1,400 New Testaments, and 4,000 Gospels to brethren who will then distribute them in the immediate area. Within a month, we hope to have the extra rental space cleaned out. The literature must be moved to at least 5 major locations within Thailand, all very near the borders of two other countries.

Within the past week, via e-mail and phone we received requests for quite a lot of these materials in Burmese and other languages. PTL, we can now fill most of those requests. . I wish I could tell you more details but cannot via e-mail. My heart is full today as I have personally watched the Lord work in at least 3 situations in lives of people we have worked with. Each one involved a significant work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. What a joy to serve Him!

Gaudet Family Update – Co-workers, Shipping, Travel (long!)

September 1 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:

Dear Intercessors,

Jeffry and Sarah Evans arrived last Wednesday and are mostly settled in. They are driving already! Several months ago when we found out that they were coming we began to pray and look for housing for them. A few weeks later we heard about a missionary going back to her country for two years. She wanted to sublease her house. We immediately looked at it and were thrilled because it was fully furnished and even included a car to drive! The rent was very reasonable. She actually left town 4 days before the Evans’ arrived. They had nothing to do other than bring in their suitcases and they were comfortable there! I guess we were just “lucky.” (grin) Only the Lord could work that out.

April Wilson is due to arrive on Friday evening. We are certainly excited about these new co-workers. Including local staff, we will number 11 people. The days to come should be productive and exciting.

We just received word that the container ship would arrive in Thailand in a few days. It is expected that by the 9th we will be unloading the container. Please pray much about this. Pray for the container to clear customs without unreasonable charges.

We know many of you have already been praying. Please continue. Pray that we will have the funds to move the materials to strategic locations as soon as the shipment arrives. Pray that it will not be necessary to rent more storage space while we ($160/mo) while we wait for funds. Really the materials are needed now. Many pastors have urged us to expedite the shipments.

I am purchasing a ticket now to be in the USA from mid October- mid November. Krinny will not be going at this time due to the short trip. We think it is necessary to deal with several matters including some time with our home church during these days. I may be able to visit a couple of churches also during this time.

Looking back over the past few years, Krinny and I are amazed at what the Lord has done. When we think about the sacrifice of so many of you so that others can have the precious Word of God we are once again humbled. It is a wonderful thing just to be part of what God is doing.

Gaudet Family Update – Homegoing of Pastor Louis Purks

August 24 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:

Dear Intercessors,

I am forwarding this to you as this dear Pastor and family have been precious to us over the years. Many of you know them. Bro. Purks and his wife had moved to Fort Worth and joined Metropolitan Baptist Church upon his retirement from the pastorate in Frederick, MD. The following was sent out from our sponsoring Church office today.

Bro. Tom

———-fwd – (slightly edited)—————
(Monday) morning around 5:00 AM Pastor Louis Purks passed away from health complications. He organized and pastored Victory Baptist Church in Frederick, Maryland until just this year. Several months ago he moved to Ft. Worth and has been such a tremendous blessing at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Being one of our Lord’s Servants, he will be greatly missed as a teacher, preacher, and friend.
Please be much in prayer for Gayle, his faithful wife for over 35 years. And please remember his son, Pastor Jonathan Purks, who assumed the Pastorate of Victory Baptist Church in Maryland, and his daughter, Julie Purks, who also lives in Maryland.

Funeral services are pending, and we will be giving that information as it happens. Bro. Lou, as many of his friends called him, was always a joy to be around. He taught Wednesday night at Metropolitan Baptist Church and a 3 hour class Saturday in the institute. He also taught the Friends in the Faith Class on Sunday morning. He used his last energy in serving his Lord and Savior.

God graced our lives with this servant! Please remember to hold this family in your prayers. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending an offering for his wife to help defray funeral costs. You can send it to Metropolitan Baptist Church with “Louis Purks Memorial” in the memo. We will see that Mrs. Purks receives it.

———————————end forward———————
Please pray much for the family at this time especially. As i said, this he and the church he pastored for so many years have been a great encouragement and blessing to this missionary family. He and his wife easily fit in at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Fort Worth and they were a blessing there also.

Gaudet Family Update – August 19, 2010

August 19 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:

Greetings from Thailand,

Please excuse the long e-mail update but we felt it necessary to bring you up to speed on some happenings and ask prayer.

In our last Update, we mentioned a situation with a man we praying about putting on staff to deal with a couple of languages in a “New area” for us. Much has happened since then. He actually spent today in the office with us. Presently he is limited to part-time but we are praying that this changes soon. Funds seem to be available at this point also. As he works on a large evangelistic literature project for us, we are laying the groundwork for putting a text from the 1860’s back into print. Many obstacles have already been overcome but we are much in need of prayer for wisdom.

We must make a day trip to the border tomorrow. Two of the folks on our team need to renew visas. While there we will meet with brethren concerning distribution of literature.

The 40′ container is scheduled to arrive in the next 2 weeks. Please pray that undue customs fees will be avoided. Also pray that we will have the necessary funds to move these materials into strategic locations where distribution will be possible. We are roughly $4,000 short of the funds needed for that at present.

On Wednesday of next week Jeffry and Sarah Evans are to arrive from the USA. Eight days later, April Wilson is scheduled to arrive. Please pray for them. It’s a big move for each one. Please pray for the Lord to richly bless and use them. Pray for us as we labor together.

We thank the Lord for the privilege to labor for Him. After we watched the Lord work in our midst recently, I mentioned to a co-worker, “I recognize His hand moving. It is just like Him to do that!”
Thank you for your labor with us in prayer. You are making a difference.

Thank you for your intercession for my trip to India. Teaming with brethren there, it looks like there is potential of reaching into many of the languages of the country. Please pray about that. What an opportunity.

A couple of weeks ago while we were dealing with a translator in a Middle Eastern country via e-mail, we met a Christian couple from that country who are now living in Thailand. They left their country due to persecution. We asked them to look over the work which had already been done because we were having some problems with fonts. It looks like they will not only be able to help us with finishing that language, but will be able to translate into the next major language in that country which is their mother tongue!

Both of these languages have large numbers of speakers in India also. However, in both cases the Indian speakers of these languages use a different script in writing. With the completion of the first two, both of the languages in India will be relatively easy to complete. As only the Lord could work it out, while in India last week we were able to lay the groundwork for dealing with these languages with the brethren there!

Now a request for intercession concerning this: The couple we met who fled their country may be available to work with us on several language projects in their languages beyond what is underway now. The husband is however looking for a job now. We would like to ask you to pray about us possibly putting him on staff. What an opportunity if the Lord directs in it! So much more is possible and the needs are so great in that region. If you wish to know more, please communicate with me about it directly.

By the way, within this month, literature which we have handled here will be on presses in Vietnam, Burma, Thailand, Russia, India as well as the USA.

Lastly, please pray for our sponsoring Church. Our Pastor just resigned and of course both He, his family, and the brethren at our Church are in need of wisdom and prayer. We are so dependent upon our Lord, our Church, our Prayer Partners and Supporters, that it is hard to think ourselves independent Baptists. Dependent is more like it.

We needed to send this short Update to mention a few things before us now. First, I am leaving on Wednesday, 28July for India. Current plans call for my return on Tuesday, 3Aug.

I will be meeting with some Brethren there concerning publishing in the local languages. Please pray that we will be able to accomplish all that the Lord has for us. Much is at stake. Please pray for Krinny and our staff in my absence.

Also, we just put our latest prayer letter on our website. For those of you who receive our Newsletters by mail it will be sent out soon. Otherwise you may download it at this Link.

Thank you for your faithful intercession. Your involvement in this work is humbling to us.

Gaudet Family Update – Container shipping tomorrow!

July 14 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:

Brethren,

We have received word of the 40′ container from the USA shipping on this Thursday, July 14. I tell you this not only as a matter of rejoicing over the news, but also to ask your intercession for its safe arrival here.

I also ask your intercession for God to enable us to have the funds on hand to both receive the container and distribute the contents. This shipment includes 5,000 whole Bibles in Burmese. There is not a week that goes by that we do not get calls and contacts asking for Bibles in Burmese. We are excited about the tracts, Gospels, and New Testaments also in the container but it is the Bibles that are requested by so many.

The dear brethren in the printing ministries and their supporters in the USA have sacrificed greatly to see this come to pass.

I am awaiting a visa for a trip to India scheduled for the end of this month. We would appreciate your prayers for this also. Sometime in the very near future upon my return from India, I desperately need to make a trip to Burma. Both of these trips were on the schedule for May when I had the accident falling through the glass door and severely injuring my arm. Of course this has really delayed the trips but it is now time.

We are grateful for the notes of encouragement from many of you. Krinny and I are very well aware of why we are able to stay here and carry on this work. Of course, it is the provision and Grace of God, but He uses so many of you to intercede and support this missionary family.

Gaudet Family Update – July 10, 2010

July 10 | Posted by Tom Gaudet | Gaudet Family Updates Tags:

We felt it needful to update you concerning the work here. Let me say first however, that I am much improved from the injury to my arm. I had no idea that nerve damage could be so debilitating. However, I am able to do just about everything needed now, with mild pain and numbness. I am so grateful to the Lord that it was not worse!

Please pray for us as we start work next week on a short video update. This should give a graphic view of the ongoing work underway here. Over the years we have learned the great the impact that photo and video can have to get a message across. In fact, one of our long-term (4 years) local co-workers has expressed a real interest in learning photography. I hope I am not presumptuous in asking if anyone has a second hand DSLR camera with interchangeable lenses which might be available at a reasonable cost. It would be a blessing to get a good price on one as equipment such as this is expensive here.

Please keep on praying about the upcoming shipment from the USA with over 40,000# of Bibles, New Testaments, scripture portions and tracts, all in Burmese. We are responsible for the cost of receiving the container and transshipping the materials into strategic locations for distribution.

I am now awaiting a visa for India. Lord willing, as soon as that comes in a trip will be made there to work with brethren concerning publishing in the local languages. What a need there is in that vast land. Please pray for wisdom.

Brethren, thank you for your labor alongside us in intercession. You make all the difference I assure you.

For Souls Still Waiting,

Tom and Krinny Gaudet

Gaudet Family Update – June 26, 2010

Brethren,

Several have inquired concerning progress here with the work and with my recovery from injury and 2 surgeries. First let me say how grateful I am for your continued intercession. We surely would not want to attempt ministry of such scope and in such a place without the faithful intercession of God’s people!

Recovery from the nerve damage done to my arm has taken a very long time. I still am not free of pain in my hand but it is much better. The biggest problem besides discomfort is that typing is very difficult. That will improve, Lord willing! Please keep praying.

Several projects have been brought to completion over these past days. We are excited to see the first S’gaw Karen booklet on Eternal Security in proofing stage now. How greatly this precious doctrine is needed among the Karen Christians. Pray as we begin translation in this language of some studies aimed at evangelism. Several other publications in Burmese are nearly finished also.

Several offerings have come in specifically for the container arrival and trans-shipment of Burmese Scriptures. This is the portion of the cost that we are responsible for concerning this next container. There is still a huge need. If you want more information please contact me. I hope to share with you later the huge investment that has already been made by brethren in the USA who have raised the funds and printed the 40,000# container of Burmese scriptures.

I must make at least two international trips which were in planning stage when i was injured almost 2 months ago. Please pray that these plans come together. Jeffry and Sarah Evans are scheduled to arrive in mid-August. April Wilson, a lady from our sponsoring Church who has served in Thailand with us before will be arriving approximately the same time as the Evans family. We are all excited about these folks coming. Jeffry will be a great traveling companion as well as other areas of ministry. I do not wish to travel alone.

I must close now. Thank you again for standing with our family and co-workers against the evil one. God’s Word is going forth on several fronts and in several languages. We praise
Him and thank you for the opportunty to be part of it!

For Souls Still Waiting,

Tom and Krinny Gaudet
